8 Ways To Avoid Abusing Your Spouse

8 Ways To Avoid Abusing Your SpouseIf you’ve been contemplating abusing your spouse for one reason or another, or if you have already been doing so, it’s possible to put an end to it. Abuse in relationships or marriage union hurts, no matter what your intentions or reasons are. The 8 ways to avoid abusing your spouse can literally help you achieve this if you are sincere about stopping the practice. That being said, let’s get started!

1. Be Born Again

There is a need for you to accept Christ as your Lord and savior, you need to confess your sins to God and tell Him to forgive you. Anyone who sins is of the devil and he/she will continually act as the devil wants him/her to because the devil is there to kill, steal, and destroy. The Devil is out to destroy your home, steal that love you share, and successfully put out the light of God’s plan for your home. You need to return to God and seriously plead for mercy.

2. Be Prayerful

Prayer is essential and it breaks yokes. Pray that God should break you and keep you broken, tell Him to take away every single thing that makes you subject to the leading of the devil and you will see His hands at work 1 Thessalonians 5:17.

3. Re-write Your History

You can establish a change in your home despite all you saw while you were growing up. Probably, you saw your father and mother fight till one of them died or you were told by your father that women are inferior or by your mother that men are gullible. Re-write your History! A woman is meant to respect her husband while a wife submits as stated in Ephesians 5:20-33. Therefore, never give room for what happened to your parents to happen to you as well. God’s plan for you differs, and can not be compared to that of your parents. You, truly, cannot afford to fail God.

4. Block All Wrong Associations And Friends

He that walk with the wise shall be wise, the company of the fools shall be destroyed, says Proverbs 13:20. Shun negative people that advise you wrongly. Shun friends that push you to abuse your friends. Resist the devil and he shall flee (James 4:7)! Block all connections to those that bring out the beast in you and embrace godly friends who will push you to do the things of God; to love God, and also to love your wife and children Matthew 22:37.

5. Tolerate Your Spouse

Tolerance is essential in marriage, understand that your Spouse is imperfect. He/she can do what is unpleasing. Your duty is to tolerate his/her imperfections and try to express what you don’t want to them, in a pleasant way. One of the attributes of Christ is tolerance, He tolerated us while we were sinners and He surrendered His life for us Romans 5:8.

6. Embrace Self Control

Lack of Self Control destroys because it comes from unhindered anger. When you fail to curb getting angry, you do things without thinking about what it could result to. Imagine abusing your spouse physically by beating him/her till he/she dies, imagine what that will result in and what will be done to you eventually. Therefore, before you act, ensure you think. Thinking first gives you control over your anger and emotions James 1:19-20.

7. Understand God’s Idea Of Love And Submission

God wants you to be happy in marriage and His desire is that you prosper in it. God wants you to love/respect your spouse. He wants your home to be peaceful and full of His presence. Therefore, your spouse should be loved/respected and not the opposite Ephesians 5:20-33.

8. Go For Counseling

8 Ways To Avoid Abusing Your SpouseYou need a counselor who can help bring your mindset back to a normal state. The counselor might be your Doctor, Pastor, or Mentor. Ensure you get checked by them often to see if you are actually improving. Victory comes when counseled if you actually desire a change Proverbs 11:14.

All the above discussed needs you to be intentional about becoming a better person, the kind of man/woman God wants you to be. Therefore, to stop being the major reason for other people’s sorrow, death, and hurts, you really need to work on yourself and ensure you come out refined.
