THE DESIRED FELLOWSHIP

 

“God, who has called you into fellowship with his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, is faithful” (1 Corinthians 1:9).

“We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ” (1 John 1:3).

“In the past, God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days He has spoken to us by his Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, and through whom He made the universe” (Hebrews 1:1-2).

“Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the LORD God as He was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the LORD God among the trees of the garden. But the LORD God called to the man, ‘Where are you?’

He answered, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid” (Genesis 3:8-10).

 

Child of God, Greetings from God the Father and Jesus Christ our Lord. We still praise God for the special grace upon which you stand, believing that all is well with you. To Him be the glory.

His Desire

There’s something to be reckoned with if one considers God as the creator of all things. It’s the fact that God does desire to fellowship with man. He longs to talk to people. You probably know that God talks to people, don’t you? Talking to people, communicating with people, and having fellowship with the created man was God’s foremost intention for the man He has created.

This intention distinguished man from all other creatures of God. Of all the creatures that God created, only man was made in His image and likeness (Genesis 1:27). Only man had the ability to fellowship with God.

Man is not a product of evolution but was made by God. However, God didn’t just create man to live alone without knowing His ways, without revealing His presence to man; without talking to man. No, He created the man to have fellowship with him. Through fellowship, His ways are made known. Through fellowship, He talks to people. Through fellowship, He reveals His presence to man.

The word fellowship simply talks of a friendly, amicable relationship between more than two people. It talks of the affection expressed between people; the affinity shared with a companion. It talks of a community of people sharing similar interests and feelings. It talks of people of congenial spirits united by mutual confidence and reciprocal virtues and values.

Fellowship talks of communion between persons close to each other like that of a family, like that of a father and son. And a Father-son fellowship is what God intends for us. John says that the reason for preaching the Word was to cause the listeners to have fellowship with God the Father (1 John 1:3). And 1 Corinthians 1:9 adds that “God has called us into fellowship ….” Truly, fellowship is what God has called us into.

Adamic Fellowship

But why call us into fellowship? Was man not in fellowship with Him before?

Yes, the man was. However, He is calling us into fellowship today because the man, Adam He created failed Him at first and fell out of fellowship with God.

Now, I think it would be good to look at the kind of fellowship Adam had with God before his fall. We call that the “Adamic fellowship.”

Before his fall, the Bible tells us that, Adam had fellowship with God daily in the garden of Eden. When God created Adam, God walked with Adam daily. God talked with Adam daily. God had fellowship with Adam daily.

In the cool of the day, God usually communicated with Adam on a daily basis, not on a monthly basis, not on a yearly basis, but on a daily basis (Genesis 3:8-9). The Bible says that “…the man and his wife heard the sound of the LORD God as He was walking in the garden in the cool of the day…” (Genesis 3:8).

This implies that the man heard and knew the voice of God in the beginning. It also implies that the voice was a daily experience for them. It says in the “cool of the day” not the month or the year. So God and the man had a perfect communion in the beginning. Until his fall, the man could hear God walk and speak without problems.

After The Fall

Even after his fall, God kept talking to the man but the man couldn’t hear well, the man couldn’t respond well to the voice that he heard. Because the presence of sin clouded his ability to hear God speak; the presence of sin clouded his ability to fellowship with God.

Because of sin, the man was on the run from the voice of God. The voice that was his delight. He was on the run from the presence of God, the presence that he was acquainted with. And consequently, he progressively fell out of fellowship with God.

Genesis tells us that, the “LORD God called to the man, “Where are you?” (Genesis 3:9). But The man wasn’t available for fellowship as desired by God, yet God was still saying something. God was still talking. God was still desiring the fellowship of man.

Still Talking Daily

In fact, God is talking every day through various means and ways. The Bible tells us, In the past, God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various

ways, …(Hebrews 1:1-2). So even after the fall, God did not stop talking to man throughout history.

Are you hearing the voice of God talking to you daily? Are you positioned to hear His voice? Can you recognize His voice when He speaks to you? If the answer to any of the above questions is a “No” to you, there’s still a chance to get used to the voice of God. To position yourself where hearing the voice of God would be a daily experience to you, There’s still an opportunity to discover how to have a daily fellowship with God. Beloved, God wants to speak to you on a daily basis. He wants to walk with you on a daily basis. He wants to have fellowship with you on a daily basis.

And He has particularly made it very possible, very simple, and very easy for you to hear His voice talking to you on a daily basis. He has so put Himself on the human level to get humans back into fellowship with Him. In these last days, God has chosen to talk to us and to fellowship with man in the person of Jesus Christ.

Hebrews tells us that, In the past, God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days He has spoken to us by his Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, and through whom He made the universe (Hebrews 1:1-2).

Hello! I would want you to notice something which is very vital to understanding the voice of God. This is the fact that God had already spoken to us. That verse above says so. It says that “…in these last days He (God) has spoken to us by his Son, … (Hebrews 1:1-2). Did you see that there? The phrase “God has spoken,” is in the past tense, denoting an action already completed, done, accomplished, and finished. Isn’t that true?

The Questions

But somebody might ask: By whom did God speak? The answer comes from that same verse which says “…in these last days He (God) has spoken to us by his Son….” So we see that God spoke through His Son.

Now, a second question comes up: Who is the Son? 1 Corinthians 1:9 gives us more clarity about who the Son is? It tells us that God has called us into fellowship with his Son Jesus Christ our Lord. So Jesus Christ is the Son of God by whom God has spoken to us today. I am achieving clarity?

A third question also goes: Why did God speak in the first place? What was His motive or reason for speaking? Again, 1 Corinthians 1:9 provides us with the answer. It says that “God has called us into fellowship with His Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Can you see clearly the reason God spoke to us by Jesus Christ? It was to call us into fellowship with Him. That simple? Yes, that simple, beloved.

But wait a minute! A fourth question still lingers on the mind unanswered. And it’s this: When one speaks, what comes out of his mouth?

Alright! Let me just redirect that question to you. When you talk or speak, what comes out of your mouth? I hope you have said “WORDS”? For it’s nothing but words that come out of one’s mouth when one speaks. So, when God speaks, It is all made up of Words. Yes, When God speaks, words come out of God’s mouth. Isn’t that logical?

Therefore, if God had spoken by His Son Jesus Christ, it means that His Son Jesus has consequently become the Word of God. Isn’t that correct?

About the Word, John tells us this, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning…The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us” (John 1:1-2, v14).

A Recap

Now, let’s recap some points to put that into context. We have been saying that when God speaks, words come out of His mouth. And that He has spoken to us by His Son. His Word has thus become Jesus His Son. In other words, Jesus, as the spoken Word of God, was spoken out by the mouth of God, alright?

But before God spoke out the Word that became Jesus, with whom was the unspoken Word? It was with God Himself. Very Good!

Before God spoke out the Word that became Jesus, where did the “Word” exist before it was spoken? It existed In God Himself. That’s correct!

So, if the unspoken “Word” that became Jesus pre-existed in God Himself, it means that Jesus and God were one without division before. Isn’t it? Yes, both were one. Good!

And If both were one, therefore, the “Jesus or the Word” was God just as much as God was God. And the “Word or Jesus” existed in the beginning just as much as God existed in the beginning.

Thus, this Jesus who was the unspoken Word of God, who was one with God, who was in God and who was God in the beginning, has now become the spoken Word of God. This perfectly fits with what John’s Gospel tells us “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning….The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us” (1:1-2, v14).

So the Son of God is the Word of God. Jesus the Son of God is now the spoken Word of God to us. This spoken Word of God has been recorded or written in the Bible and made available to us in a simple way we could understand it.

The Word of God

The Bible is the Word of God to you today. It’s the voice of God to you today. It’s God speaking to you today. Reading the Bible daily is hearing and listening to the voice of God. Reading the Bible daily is how you position yourself to hear God’s voice. Reading the Bible daily is having fellowship with God the Father and Jesus His Son. If you read the Bible daily, you are listening to Jesus speaking; you are listening to God’s spoken Word. If you read the Bible daily, you are having fellowship with Jesus and God the Father.

Beloved, God wants to speak to you on a daily basis. He wants to walk with you on a daily basis. He wants to have fellowship with you on a daily basis. For God is still talking to people today. What a piece of great news to hear that God wants to talk to you and walk with you.

The Reason Is Fellowship

Remember that one of the great reasons you came to Christ is that God might keep talking to you. It’s that God might keep disclosing His thoughts to you. It’s that you and God might have true fellowship.

The Bible tells us that the reason the gospel was proclaimed to us was to cause us to have fellowship with God the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ (1 John 1:3). But you can’t have fellowship with somebody if you ignore what He says. You can’t have fellowship with somebody if you ignore His Word.

It’s important to say that there’s no fellowship without communication. And to communicate, we need words. The reason God has called us into fellowship is that He might communicate His intents to us, His ways to us, His mind to us, His Words to us. He wants to talk to you today and always. He wants to talk to you about your daily affairs, about your daily job.

He Wants To Talk To You

He wants to talk to you about your health. He wants to talk to you about your relationship with your spouse; and about the dating process for couples.

He wants to talk to you about your business undertakings. He wants to talk to you about the political situation of your nation. He wants to talk to those in authority daily about how to govern the people better. God wants to be part of all these. That’s what fellowship is all about. To have fellowship with God is to read His Word, the Bible daily. The Bible is God talking to you.

Do You want to hear His voice? Do you want to know when and how He talks to you? Would you allow Him to talk to you and address your problems? Then get used to the Spoken Word of God daily. For fellowship with the Word, daily is the desired fellowship.

May your decision to read the Bible daily cause you to dwell in the shelter of the Most High and find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. May His Word be your only true source of refuge and fortress in
