How Couples Can Lead Amidst Rising Cases Of Covid-19 Victims
It’s like the coronavirus pandemic is becoming politicized. It’s like the death toll of those killed by the virus is being manipulated for political gains. When some political leaders, who should have been our models and examples, want to reduce the number of death counts, not by doing what is sound and right, but by reducing or weakening the ability for testing covid-19 cases because it’s not good for political image and pursuit, it tells you that nobody cares for you better than you care for yourselves. That’s why we’ve written, “How Couples Can Lead Amidst Rising Cases Of Covid-19 Victims” to empower couples and help them survive this trying time.
It’s incorrect to say that the rising cases of covid-19 victims are because the testing is too much. Rather, it’s true that the rising case is because many people are contracting the disease. Period. You can test a whole nation and find fewer cases, and you can test just a few individuals and find out that all of them are victims.
I agree that the more you test, the more cases you can find. But the cases you found aren’t because you just tested but because they were already infected. The testing helped you discover the infected. And if you said that you wouldn’t test, sooner, you would start burying the dead or be overwhelmed by a high number of people who would need medical attention all at the same time. None of these is the picture that any true leadership wants, whether political or not.
The Rising Cases: A Challenge
At the time of writing this article, there is a total of 9.665.041 cases and 490.903 deaths worldwide as a result of covid-19. And in America alone, we have 2.429.769 cases and 125000 covid-19 related deaths, that’s in the US alone, a nation that has done 30 million tests. Think about that? Last Thursday the 25th of June, the US recorded 40.000 new cases, which is her highest number of cases in a single day thus far.
32 states in the US are seeing a rise in cases as new testing is carried out. That’s not the end of the story. The story keeps changing, people are getting infected and are still dying from the infection, although some are recovering. But those with comorbidities, some of which sincerely contracted from others, don’t find it easy to make it through. This calls for not just individual action but societal action against coronavirus. We all have to take a strong stand and do our parts respectively to fight it.
You Are All Leaders
It’s worth reminding you all with the very words the Reverend P.C. Akubueze said, “You are all leaders within your sphere of influence, and together we lead the world.” That right there is a call to responsibility, personally and collectively. There’s something that you can do that can impact the world positively and if we do our part, collectively, we can change the world and make it a better place for all.
You couples–wives, husbands–are all leaders, and there’s something that you can do to prevent coronavirus from spreading. If we all adhere to what we are told by medical experts, not political leaders necessarily, we can slow its spread and reduce the number of victims considerably. You can help save lives by doing your part; by being responsible; by following the covid-19 safety measures put in place for our good and safety.
Life Comes First
No time has it ever been so important to prioritize your health over anything else than now–this moment. Yes, Public health safety is more important than political aspirations or the economy or any other thing. Life always comes first. When there’s life, you can create a great economy and political portfolio. The economy can never be prioritized over the public health safety of the people because it’s the people who run the economy.
Some political leaders set a very bad example flouting the advice of medical experts, silenced the voice of medical authorities, and are more after their political goals than public health safety.
This tells you that they care less for your health safety than for their political aspiration. When personal political interests are more important than public health safety, the people themselves should show leadership to follow the counsel of health authorities for their own good and safety. Because public health safety should at all times be prioritized over the political aspirations of any politician, be prioritized over the economy, or personal ambition.
Life, again, always comes first. For when there’s life, there’s hope, there’s health, and then the ambition to create a great economy and political portfolio comes to play. The economy can never be prioritized over the public health safety of the people because it’s the people in good health who run a strong and prosperous economy.
